What will my experience be like?
Previous to your session, you may choose to schedule a free 10-minute call or online meeting to make sure you’d like to book. Once you’ve decided to make an appointment, you can schedule online (see our online booking platform here) or contact Maritza to let her know. We’ll need a credit card on file to secure the appointment time, but your card will not be charged until the time of the appointment.
For all in-person services at Curandera Counseling, you’ll arrive with paperwork already filled out no more than 10 minutes before your session. The office does not have waiting space, so if you arrive before then, you’ll have to wait in the car. We also have two resident dogs, so if you have allergies or don’t like dogs, please be sure to mention beforehand so that we can accommodate you well.
For all online sessions, you will be sent a link prior to your session to meet either via Zoom or comparable ACA-approved online platform.
Initial sessions are 75 minutes long. You’ll meet with Maritza to go over what brings you to counseling, discuss your therapeutic goals, and learn about the counseling process as recommended by your therapist.
This is your chance to ask lots of questions and get what you need to feel comfortable, and for you and Maritza to decide if you’d like to continue working together. At the end of your session, we go over a treatment plan together, find a resource for you to continue work at home if you’d like (homework!) and book a time for you to come back.
In-person sessions are held in a spacious multi-purpose counseling room that can accommodate individuals, couples, and families. The Curandera Counseling therapups (resident dogs) may be around. If you prefer them not to be, just make mention of this and they will be happily entertained in another room.
The office is in a residential home with access to kitchen, bathroom, and anything you might need. It is a very relaxed, comfortable environment where you are meant to feel at home.
Can I use my insurance?
Curandera Counseling cannot process any form of insurance, but can provide diagnostic receipts for all treatment. Those who choose who wish to be reimbursed, we recommend contacting your insurance ahead of sessions to discuss how and when they are reimbursed. We find that having a plan and knowing what to expect helps clients budget, and therefore feel more at ease about their care.
For clients who are unable to afford standard session fees, sliding scale care is available. For more information, see our rates page.
What are the fees?
Standard rates are as follows:
- 75 minute sessions – $220
- 45 minute sessions – $150
- Additional Time – Time above standard session rounded up to the nearest 15 minutes – $35/15 minutes
- Phone Consults – $35/15 minutes; if less than 10 minutes, free
What kinds of things can Curandera Counseling Therapy help me with?
People come to counseling when they feel some aspect of their feelings, relationships, or similar part of their lives are getting out of hand. Professional Counseling is an applicable resource for all people, in all stages of life, with many presenting problems and goals. Counseling can help clients heal from emotional hurts, establish and achieve goals, mend relationships and much more.
Is my information confidential?
Yes. Curandera Counseling follows all pertinent legal and ethical codes, including HIPAA privacy practices. Limits to confidentiality are discussed during “informed consent,”the time you talk to the therapist before you begin receiving formal services.
Note that during the COVID-19 crisis, all sessions are held online via various platforms as needs dictate. While the American Counseling Association and local boards have approved this move, and we will take all reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee complete confidentiality in this format.
How long should my sessions be?
Initial sessions for Professional Counseling are always 75 minutes. After that, Maritza will give you options to help you decide what duration and regularity is right for you based on your goals and availability.
